SageNet experts will be on hand to discuss the company\u2019s\u00a0Sage<\/em>ZONE\u2122 MNSP services in booth #3671 at this year\u2019s NACS show Oct. 1-4 in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

For C-store operators using Verifone\u2019s Commander or Gilbarco\u2019s Passport Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems, the certifications ensure PCI-compliant remote PCI zone access from the PoS firms\u2019 help desks as well as remote software upgrades and patches. In addition, SageNet\u2019s\u00a0Sage<\/em>ZONE MNSP services are crucial to support the transition to\u00a0 fuel dispensers capable of accepting EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) chip card payments.<\/p>\n

The card brands have established Oct. 1, 2020, as the deadline for merchants to deploy chip card readers at all automated fuel dispensers. After that date, C-store operators may be liable for fraudulent transactions at pumps not upgraded to accept EMV chip transactions. According to Visa, the payment card industry has reported a 43 percent reduction of counterfeit fraud at chip-enabled merchants.<\/p>\n

Conversion from traditional card readers to chip-enabled systems can be a daunting process for C-store operators, according to Scott Cheek, SageNet\u2019s Vice President of Sales.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are two pressing concerns at play,\u201d explained Cheek. \u201cImmediately, C-stores must contract the services of a certified MNSP or else they\u2019ll lose the ability to receive remote support for their point-of-sale systems. And by October 2020, C-stores must also have implemented EMV at the pump or incur the liability for any fraudulent transactions. Our job is to make the implementation as smooth as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cheek has a special appreciation for the challenges faced by C-store operators. Prior to joining SageNet, he was director of retail technology for a major petro-marketing company, where he had oversight of 6,800 locations across 29 states.<\/p>\n
